BLUEGRASS UNDERGROUND concerts have aired on country music’s flagship radio station, 650 WSM-AM since 2008. Now, partnerships of Loblolly Ventures, WCTE-DTV (PBS) in Cookeville, TN and Emmy award-winning producer Todd Jarrell have developed this unique series for distribution on PBS television. Each concert recorded and filmed in High Definition 5.1 surround sound, took place in front of a live audience at the Volcano Room located 333-feet deep within Cumberland Caverns near McMinnville, TN. Discovered in 1810, the 32-miles long U.S. National Natural Landmark attracts thousands of visitors from around the world each year. The combination of a studio quality acoustic cavern and top creative talent provides viewers with an incredible presentation of one of the most visually amazing and acoustically true venues.
“PBS is constantly seeking fresh ways to engage our audience through nature, culture and the arts,” says John F. Wilson, PBS Senior Vice President and Chief TV Programming Executive, “and BLUEGRASS UNDERGROUND combines all of these in every extraordinary show.”
“Performing with Mountain Heart for ‘BLUEGRASS UNDERGROUND’ was an absolute RIOT,” says co-founding member, Jim VanCleve. “There’s the obvious fact we were over 300-feet below the earth’s surface — that alone is something to remember. Add to the mix the world-class musical artists, along with the excellent lighting and audio/visual production crew there to capture the magic that occurred, and you’ve got a series that has the makings of a classic! We are extremely proud to be involved.”
Since forming in 1999, Mountain Heart has fearlessly revolutionized the way acoustic music is performed and presented. They have become synonymous with cutting-edge excellence, combining elements of Rock, County Blues, Jazz and Bluegrass into a fresh and unmistakably unique sound. Members of the group have either won or been nominated for multiple Grammy, ACM, CMA and IBMA Awards and have played on the Opry stage more than 100 times throughout their illustrious career.
That Just Happened is the latest music from Mountain Heart. The 7-song EP was released earlier this year on their label imprint and is available at great retailers across the country, as well as online retailers like Amazon ans iTunes and their website.
Each month, they host their own national radio show on 650 WSM-AM called, “That Just Happened With Mountain Heart.” They are currently touring across the country, headlining concerts at various fairs, festivals and Performing Arts Centers.
